This resource is a collection of introductory physics homework assignments developed as an alternative to traditional textbook exercises. These assignments were designed for use with the Activity-Based Physics instructional method (ABP). Students use observational skills and mathematical modeling, combined with basic physics, to solve problems related to a single situation, such as riding a bicycle or tailgating while driving. Each assignment integrates a variety of concepts and requires students to establish cause and effect relationships. Assignments are available in the following subject categories: mechanics, electricity and magnetism, and waves.

Adopt-a-Physicist is the web site for a bi-annual mentoring activity involving physicists and high school classes. Each class adopts a professional physicist and asks questions about the activities, careers, and background of scientists and those with science educations. Communications are online and teachers and scientists are encouraged to participate. This is a collaboration between the Society of Physics Students and ComPADRE.

Annenberg Media Projects Learner Online site in 1997 added a section of online exhibits, an extension of its educational multi-media collection. The first exhibit, The Middle Ages, portrays every day life in Medieval times and contains sections on religion, homes, clothing, health, arts, and town life. Each section provides a short essay and links to related sites, and may also offer an interactive quiz or activity. This is the first of what is to be a series of monthly exhibits aimed at K-12 students and other interested users. Learners of all ages can consult Learner Online for information on Annenberg/CPB projects and can also visit a video preview room (RealPlayer or VDOLive), and consult a guide to math and science reform, and SAMI (Science and Math Initiatives), a "clearinghouse of resources, funding, and curriculum for... math and science teachers."

This small collection from Learner.org provides a unique digital lab for teachers to explore new ideas in learning. The activities are designed around four strands: patterns in mathematics, seasonal changes and moon phases, geometry, and the nature of light. Each section features interactive exercises to challenge teachers' thinking about logic, pattern recognition, shape and structure, symbolic relationships, and mathematical reasoning. The authors then delve into the learning theory behind the activities and how it can be extended to learners of different ages and abilities. Each module provides links to hands-on activities for the classroom.

This web site can be used to access self-tests and build conceptual inventories on topics in electricity and magnetism. The topics covered range from charges and electrostatics to circuits, magnetic fields, and electro-magnetic waves. In self-test mode, a learner can access concept quizzes consisting of 5 multiple choice questions covering a selected topic. Questions are pulled from an extensive question database. These quizzes are graded, solutions provided, and a cumulative score kept for each session. In Concept Inventory mode, an instructor or learner can build concept quizzes from the question database. In building these quizzes, the number of questions, topics covered, and specific questions can all be selected. The resultant quizzes can be printed, solutions created, or downloaded for import into the Blackboard Course Management System.

Published by Emory University, this site is a collection of ˘ď‹ďĐinquiry-based lessons to engage K-12, undergraduate, and graduate students in exploring the science behind real-world problems.˘ď‹ď Though most cases here are geared toward high school and middle school students, many can be easily adapted for an early undergraduate audience. Cases are indexed by topic: anatomy/physiology, biology, chemistry, earth science, environmental science, health science, life science, mathematics, microbiology, physical science, and physics. Free registration is required, but the quality of the resources makes it worth the time as many include both teacher guides and student materials to download. This site would be very helpful for science educators looking for new and accessible materials to use in their classrooms.

These web pages, authored and curated by David P. Stern, provide a short overview of the common (Gregorian) calendar and some less-common ones--Julian, Jewish (leap months), Moslem, Persian (New Year on the spring equinox), Ethiopian and Maya. The period of the Earth's rotation (the day), the year, and the month are all described, then the history of the common calendar is presented. Information about different cultures is provided. This is part of a large web site, "From Stargazers to Starships" that introduces physics concepts through space science and an historical perspective. Translations into Spanish, French and Italian, also linked lesson plans are included.
