In order for most instructors to use OSP material in their courses (or in their educational, experimental, or theoretical research), the various physical models already available must be easily accessible, modifiable, and distributable. The paradigm for authoring, organizing, and running curricular material described in this Chapter uses the Launcher and LaunchBuilder programs to accomplish this goal.

This web site contains a complete suite of resources suitable for the second semester of an undergraduate electricity and magnetism class. The materials developed include a suite of clicker questions, in-class activities, homework problems, and other assessments. The topics covered include Maxwell's time-dependent equations, AC circuits, conservation laws, electromagnetic waves in vacuum and media, potentials and gauge transformations, radiation & special relativity. This package of course materials also contains implementation guides, an archive of several past E&M II courses at the University of Colorado, and supporting materials such as explicit learning goals, relevant education research articles, and notes on common student difficulties. The materials are available in Word, Powerpoint, and PDF formats to facilitate their adaptation and implementation by others. Assessment materials are available from the authors upon request. The authors of these materials are seeking feedback to help in the refinement and improvement of these course materials and assessments.

The unit begins with Newton's law of universal gravitation and inertial mass, then provides an overview of general relativity, time dilation, and curved spacetime. Two chapter headings are devoted to gravitational wave detection with laser interferometers, a promising new field of astronomy. Guided by experimental tests of theory and practice, science has advanced rapidly ...

Guided by experimental tests of theory and practice, science has advanced rapidly in the past 500 years. Guided primarily by tradition and dogma, science education meanwhile has remained largely medieval. Research on how people learn is now revealing how many teachers badly misinterpret what students are thinking and learning from traditional science classes and exams. However, research is also providing insights on how to do much better. The combination of this research with modern information technology is setting the stage for a new approach that can provide the relevant and effective science education for all students that is needed for the 21st century. This presentation shows the failures of traditional educational practices, even as used by "very good" teachers, and the successes of some new practices and technology that characterize this more effective approach, and how these results are highly consistent with findings from cognitive science.
