The resource includes four word problems relating to 3.OA.3, using multiplication and division to solve word problems. An answer key with suggested strategies for solving the problems are also included. The problems are worded flexibly so that students can use either multiplication or division. This resource also can serve as a "jumping off" point for teachers who are interested in devising problems of their own to prepare their students to think of multiplication as a comparison, as they will in 4th grade (4.OA.1) These questions also can serve as discussion points during instruction, and allow students to share a variety of strategies; e.g., drawings, equations, symbols for the unknown number.
